Austria’s 13th and 14th salary: net pay through the year

This article was created with artificial intelligence support.

Austria’s special salary payments can make annual net divided by twelve larger than an ordinary month’s payslip. Budget with the actual payment schedule.

Confirm the payments in your contract

Check the employment contract or applicable collective agreement for special payments, their amount and payment dates. A reference to thirteen or fourteen salaries does not by itself establish your entitlement or guarantee fourteen identical net payments.

Use annual gross as the comparison basis

Compare offers by their guaranteed annual cash total. Multiplying a monthly quote by twelve can miss special payments; multiplying by fourteen can overstate pay when their basis differs. Ask the employer for the annual amount before entering it.

Read regular and special payments on an annual basis

For 2026, € 48.000,00 annual gross leaves € 34.420,97 annual net. The assumed split gives € 3.428,57 gross per regular payment and € 3.428,57 gross per special payment. Check your payslip for the net amount paid each time.

Open the annual salary example, confirm the payment assumptions and make a month-by-month budget from your employer’s payment schedule.

Understand the model’s split

The examples split annual gross into twelve regular payments and two special payments. The table shows gross per payment and annual net. It does not calculate net for each payment or offer another payment schedule or split.

Check an ordinary month’s payslip

Annual net divided by twelve spreads all income evenly for planning. It does not show what the bank receives in an ordinary month. Use the employer’s payroll information to confirm ordinary net and the months containing special payments.

Assign irregular income before spending it

Base rent and other recurring commitments on reliable cash in an ordinary month. Special payments can cover annual bills, reserves or planned purchases. If you spread them across the year, keep the money available until those later bills fall due.

Check partial years and extra payments

Starting or leaving mid-year, additional bonuses and changes in pay can affect special-payment treatment. The full-year example does not calculate every contract or payroll adjustment. Check the official sources and employer calculation for the year in which your situation changes.

Before using a monthly salary figure

  • Confirm annual gross and special-payment terms in writing.
  • Check the twelve-regular-plus-two-special model assumption.
  • Use ordinary-month cash for recurring commitments.
  • Verify partial-year treatment and actual payment dates.
